2011: The Year That Was MJ

Well as another year go by without Michael his fans once again have gone to prove that his legacy will last forever. So what were your highlights? Too many to mention? Well today I will run through my top 5 MJ happenings of 2011.

5 – Behind The Mask

I’m sure that this was a fave of many of you out there and I am sure that loads of us tried to take part. But if you were living under a rock for the last 12 months ‘Behind The Mask’ was a crowd-sourced project by the official MJ web site where fans where asked to send in video of them doing their typical every day MJ thing which was then melded to a storyboard to produce what is in my mind a really lovely tribute to our dear friend.

4 – The Life Of An Icon

I’m sure that this was left in a lot of our stockings this Christmas. ‘The Life Of An Icon’ is a David Gest produced film which tells the tale of Michael’s life and his rise to stardom told by the people that were there. This is a truly heart-warming movie but also at some points hard to watch but one that everyone, MJ fan or not should see.

3 – Take Me Away

Now I don’t know if this one made a visual on everyone’s radar as it wasn’t around for long. But ‘Take Me Away’ was a completely original track by DJ and mixer Nathan Jay who used samples of MJ’s voice to create something truly awe inspiring. I don’t think that there is a day that goes by when I don’t fire this one up. It even had it’s own awesome music video. Unfortunately the MJ Online Team asked him to take it down. Why on earth they wanted something so unique to be hidden from MJ’s fans is beyond me but it has sneaked out there if you can find it. Oh there it is!

2 – Like Mike

As I have said before this has to be one of the most amazing MJ tributes I have ever seen. Performed and produced by Daniel ‘Cloud’ Campos this story actually originated from a series of short films called ‘The Mysterious Case‘ and culminated in something so spectacular with such an amazing twist it will have you gagging for more. This is truly one of the highlights of my MJ year.

1 – MJFam

Like a said earlier we go another year without Michael in our lives but there’s one thing that always makes it easier and that’s the fans. Whether it be the readers of this site, people I meet at events and my very special band of #mjfam (you know who you are) you always carry yourselves with such dignity and though people may knock us we never fall down. You are all the reason that I continue to create this site and always will.

L.O.V.E. you more!

iPad: Michael Jackson The Experience

As I recover from my recent knee operation I find myself bored as hell. But what is this I see in the AppStore? Well hell it’s Michael Jackson The Experience for iPad and it’s only £2.99. Well you know me I had to go and grab that.

So how does it work on the iPad? You may know of the games previous incarnations from late 2010, early 2011 on the Wii, PS3 and XBox Kinect which used motion controls to interpret your moves into the game. There was also the Nintendo DS version which I got a few months ago but this demanded that you prod circles with your stylus to the music to achieve points but as we all know the iPad ain’t for plastic pens.

Now I did see some footage of the forthcoming Playstation Vita version which is touchscreen enabled and this seemed to use swipes and gestures and this is exactly the route the iPad version has gone down and to be honest it actually looks to be exactly like the Vita version.

Basically the game obviously comes with an array of MJ hits but not as many as you’d think. The pre-loaded songs are Smooth Criminal, Blood on the Dancefloor, Beat It and Speed Demon. There are other classics in the list such as Billie Jean, Black or White and the recent Hollywood Tonight but if you want to play those you have to pay an extra £1.49 per track. I guess that this is the way that they have managed to make the app so cheap, a little frustrating but it does provide a solid basis to get moonwalking from the off. Also before you get going you can change costumes for an additional layout of 69p.

So once you have chosen your fave track and started the game you’re treated to some pretty good cut scenes even though they do look a little bit like late 90′s CGI and their depictions of MJ leave a little to be desired (see image) but they do add a certain amount of atmosphere to the proceedings.

Does I look like MJ?

As I mentioned before the game play demands to swipe the screen as instructed by the arrows that appear and you have to perform them to the beat so if you’re an avid MJer then you should pick this up pretty quickly. The more moves you get right then more dancers are added to the routine. The more dancers you have the bigger your score multiplier. If you cock a move up then you lose your entourage but they will return if you get your ct back together.

There is also a nice option about halfway through the routine to go freestyle where you can dance your little socks off any way you like. You also get the cut scenes during the game which are a nice touch and they do give you a chance to briefly rest those dancing fingers.

There are 3 difficulty settings and you are also graded on your progress. Like I say the song selection is initially limited but it does promise that more are coming soon.

So all in all for less than 3 quid this is a pretty damn good game and works perfectly on the iPad platform and I would recommend it to all whether you’re an MJ fan or not.

Stop The Press

Before you watch the video you need to watch this, this, this and this!!!

I have to say that I have seen a lot of MJ tributes in my time but I have to say that this is probably one of the most original and professional productions I have ever seen. You so have to check this out. Thanks to Rob for the heads up.

Legends Never Die

I first set up this web site in early 2009 after Michael announced that he would be performing live at the O2 as means to record the life changing events that this concert series would bring. The most important part of the whole project was the fact that it would be a community project that fans could contribute to. Since that terrible day on June 25th I decided to keep this site alive as a last memory of Michael’s memory and even though we have had a number of writers come and go I don’t really feel that we have been able to capture that community feel.

So with that I am throwing open the doors of AMajorLove.com to all of you. Whether you have photos, videos or stories to share or even if you just want to say “Hi” to our loyal readers simply fill in the form below with a short description of the sort of thing that you would like to post to the site and we will sort you out a login from which you can share your thoughts and experiences and ultimately keep Michael’s spirit alive because legends never die.

Guilty As Charged

OK so I admit that things on the site have been pretty quiet as of late but with the ongoing trial of Conrad Murray and my disagreement with the badly timed MJ Forever Concert I felt that there was enough negative noise out there about my idol, not withstanding having to view his lifeless body as part of the prosecution case against his former doctor.

I am however so glad that justice has been served. There were a number of contributory facts the lead to Michael’s passing but Conrad Murray’s was the most heinous. As a fan was quoted after the long awaited guilty verdict “Doctors should heal and not kill” and amen to that.

Now I’m not going to go into the my own personal opinions about the case as there are many especially as I basically watched the entire trial unfold on TV and online as that is not what this site is about, it’s about keeping Michael’s legacy alive.

So with that why am I going on about it? Well on Monday when the news was announced I managed to hook up with the MJ fans who have helped me through the dark days since we lost our dear friend and who I consider true friends although none of us have ever met. So thank you to Amanda, Malcolm, Robert and William for holding my hand through a difficult time. It really meant a lot.

Hollywood Tonight

Just been flicking through Robert (MaJic) Wilson’s Facebook page and found this amazing alternative remix of Hollywood Tonight (below)  which is so magical in its simplicity that I makes the track sound amazing.

So following on from this I will be making Hollywood Tonight the track for this week.
